Annual Meeting

In my first two years with you, I’ve been impressed by your commitment to attending the church’s Annual Meeting! I hope this year will be even better! I hope you have had a chance to actually read the reports submitted by the boards and committees. The chair persons of these boards have put in some hours condensing a year’s work into digestible pieces so that you will have a picture of their contributions to the life of Union church.

The church’s Annual Meeting is more than business though that is always part of it – budgets and finances, nominations and election of officers. As a Body of Christ we are covenanted together to BE the church for each other, our community, and the world. How do we do that other than the administration of the organization? The Executive Council put something new on the agenda this year – a discussion about becoming a Sanctuary, Sanctuary-Supporting, or Immigrant Welcoming Church. Sunday’s scripture text from Micah 6: 1-8 describes a dramatic confrontation, a lawsuit between God and Israel. What must Israel [aka we] do to be in a right relationship with God? Verse 8 summarizes: do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.

As we gather in covenant community for worship and business, I pray the Holy Spirit may enliven and inspire us about how to live out this right relationship.

Shalom, Pr. Barb
