Sunday, after worship, we have a unique opportunity to hear about ISAIAH from our area organizer, Laura Johnson. Several of you attended their big event in January 2016 when we heard from Doran Schrantz (Executive Director), Rev. James Alberts (president), Mayor Betsy Hodges, and Senator Al Franken (to name a few.)

From their website: “ISAIAH is a faith-based coalition of more than 100 member congregations that lets communities in Minnesota more effectively live out their faith in biblical justice and the common good.” They are non-partisan organizing to “strengthen the ability of people of faith to address both local and regional community issues.”

Since the presidential election, ISAIAH has worked with congregations to provide sanctuary to undocumented Minnesotans. They are looking ahead now to bring people of all ideologies together to share our stories of struggle that can bring us together instead of divide us. On Sunday, Laura will share with us a model for holding house meetings in our neighborhoods in order to find common ground about our shared values. This will embolden us to work together to bring these values to caucuses of both parties in February 2018.

We are all made in God’s image. We’re called to love one another as ourselves and to bear one another’s burdens. When we put feet on this theology, we are being community. Healthy communities are part of building God’s kindom on earth!
