Growing Together

Sometimes, God speaks to us in small ways. At Union Congregational, we believe that church isn’t something that happens for only an hour a week on Sunday mornings. That’s why we have small group ministries.

At-Home Resources

Explore faith formation at home through these easy to use resources. (link to at home page)

Bible and Brew

An off-site gathering of adults at McCoy’s Public House on 3801 Grand Way in St. Louis Park for a conversation to learn more about each other’s stories and your faith in an informal setting.

Bible Study

Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. This group looks at the weekly lectionary in advance of Sunday or does specific biblical books/scriptures.

Book Group

Our book club meets regularly to select a new book and share their insights about a previous selection.

Breakfast Club

Choirs

Joy Singers (children’s choir), Bells and Senior Choirs all practice on Wednesday evenings.

CLUCS (Church Ladies of Union Canoe Society)

An annual canoe trip to the Boundary Waters is this group’s focus.

Confirmation
Confirmation is offered to 8th – 10th graders. We use the UCC curriculum Affirming Faith supplemented with mentor relationships, field trips and other curriculum and activities. Upon completion, each student may decide whether to reaffirm baptismal vows and/or join the church. Contact Leah Springer, Director of Faith Formation for more information at: 952.929.8566 or dff@unionslp.com to learn more.

 Family Partners

Have small children and find it difficult to come to church often? We want to support your faith formation and develop a relationship with you through Family Partners. Each young family is paired with someone who finds Sunday mornings easier to get going. They deliver seasonal packets of at home faith forming activities to your home; they keep in touch by sending birthday cards and just making sure all is well with your family and keeping you apprised of happenings at church that might be just a little more geared toward young families.

Prayer Shawl

Knitters at Union have made it their ministry to create prayer shawls for those experiencing an illness or loss of a loved one. They knit both independently and together on Sunday mornings.

TRUST Youth
Union Youth and youth from other churches join together in this ecumenical group for a critical mass to do justice and service projects, fun and educational events, and go on annual mission trips. These gatherings are most often on Sundays although days, dates and times vary.

20’s – 30’s

Have an interest or idea? How about a parenting group? Want to have a place to meet? Gather a few friends or acquaintances; call the church to connect with the Pastor Barb and find out when space is available. We would love to support your endeavors!

Library

Union’s library boasts a broad spectrum of media materials for member use, including books, DVDs and periodicals. A sampling of titles includes Preparing for Jesus (Wangerin), Born of a Woman (Spong), Dear Sisters (Westerfield), Coming Out Young & Faithful (Tigert and Brown), Archaeology of the Land of the Bible(Stern), The Dream of Water (Mori), Gilead (Robinson), I Wish I Were a Butterfly (Howe) and Hattie Big Sky(Larson). In addition, the library features comfy chairs, reading tables, access to a kitchenette and space for meetings of small groups.

Labyrinth

Our labyrinth, an ancient tool for spiritual meditation, is made available members and visitors. Call the church for information about the next event.

Pilgrim Point Camp

This much-beloved camp is located on Lake Ida, just north of Alexandria, Minn. Week-long family camps and weekend all church retreats are offered during the summer and are a wonderful respite from busy lives. Specialty camps and retreats are also offered. Take a look at  their website to see schedule.
